ABOUT THE COURSE
Join Grace and Lucie in a courageous, heart-led, rigorous examination of the actor-director relationship, through the lens of Shakespeare, over the course of three sessions. In this series of workshops, you will explore how to create a rich, collaborative rehearsal room. Together, we will yank Shakespeare into the present. Whether you are a Shakespeare expert wanting to experience text in a new light, or a total novice with passion and curiosity, all are welcome. Shakespeare belongs to you.
Directors will gather tools to help their collaborators thrive in a progressive rehearsal room, and actors will empowered in their collaboration and connection with directors.
Director, actor, and observer places available. For the best experience, sign up to all 3 sessions; however, drop in visitors are also welcome.
Please note that to get the most out of the workshops, actors may be asked to learn lines in advance.
ABOUT LUCIE
Lucie is a director and the Co-Lead of SCRUM. She is an associate for Cheek by Jowl, and recently collaborated with Declan Donnellan on his new book, The Actor and The Space. She produces and hosts Cheek by Jowl's podcast 'Not True, But Useful...', and teaches at the Barbican and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Lucie trained at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale as the Cullman Scholar in Directing. When she's not in the theatre, you'll find her curating digital projects in museums.
ABOUT GRACE
Grace trained as an actor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama(BA Acting). Her current research investigates the tension between safe space and identity in effective actor training.
As an Acting Tutor, Grace holds an MA in Actor Training and Coaching from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (distinction). London credits include projects at Guildhall (multiple departments), Central (BA, MA, Acting Diploma), ArtsEd (BA, MA, Foundation), Mountview (Foundation) and Home Studio London. International credits include: Fontainebleau School of Acting (Paris, Athens), Ensatt L’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Techniques du Théatre (Lyon), Prima del Teatro (Pisa) and multiple universities and correctional facilities across the US. Her leadership experience involves curriculum design at Fontainebleau School of Acting as well as the role of Head of Short Courses, including the founding and direction of FONACT London, and 3-Month Intensive, Athens.
Acting credits include: The Forbidden Zone (Katie Mitchell, Schaubühne), Peer Gynt (London Symphony Orchestra), Tomorrow I Was Always a Lion (Belarus Free Theatre), The Winter’s Tale (Cheek by Jowl), Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet (Actors From The London Stage), Macbeth (Sophie Fiennes/Cheek by Jowl), and Twelfth Night (Kirsty Bushell). She is also an award-winning filmmaker and voiceover artist, voicing video games including Battlefields V, and multiple audiobook titles on Audible.
