Creating Brave Spaces with Compass Collective

  • 191 Talgarth Road London W6 8BJ UK (map)

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Join us for a workshop with Compass Collective, an award winning refugee arts charity. They will share their approach to creating safe, welcoming and brave spaces, and the trauma informed practices that sit at the heart of their work.

ABOUT COMPASS COLLECTIVE

people seeking asylum to build resilience and integrate into the UK. They achieve this through engaging these young people in a range of arts-based programmes, including theatre, music, and film projects; creative language lessons; and arts-led professional development programmes. These projects help vulnerable young people to improve their communication skills, build their confidence, and move towards future opportunities in education, training, or employment: their work offers a community and a crucial source of support for young people who would otherwise be at risk of social isolation or exclusion.

Compass supports approximately 350 young people aged 14-26 per year, in over 25 locations in the UK. The majority of them are at their initial stage of immigration. 70% are unaccompanied minors. Compass Collective's work with young people has reached a live audience of 3,650 and a digital audience of 19,450, as well as government and Home Office delegates. They have performed at Shakespeare's Globe, Leeds Playhouse, and their films have been shown at the Tate and been nominated for awards.
