The Mural

with Murugiah, Compass Collective and SCRUM

Murugiah with the teams from Compass Collective and SCRUM are all looking at sketches for a mural on the table. The participant sitting down explains her choices, making a joke, and the others smile and laugh

The Workshop

On the 28th August 2024, award-winning artist Murugiah, the young people from Compass Collective, and the SCRUM team popped their pen lids, rolled out sheets of paper, and dreamt up a mural together. Inspired by this year's Refugee Week theme, all sketches are based on the theme of 'home’.

Over the coming months, Murugiah will transform these sketches on a huge canvas which will hang in our Mezzanine at SCRUM Studios.

This is the second time Murugiah and Compass Collective have collaborated. Last year for Refugee Week 2023 Murugiah was commissioned to make an installation on the theme of ‘compassion’, which went on display in the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre. It was born out of a workshop with the young people at Compass, who shared how acts of compassion have shaped their lives.

This is SCRUM’s first time working with Murugiah and we couldn’t be more delighted. We want to thank him and everyone at Compass Collective heartily for bringing us into the process.
